| About Us | ||||||||||||
In January 1993, a group of concerned citizens from Woodland and Davis met to discuss the need for decent, affordable housing for low-income families in Yolo County. After several years of research and planning, Habitat for Humanity Yolo County was granted affiliate status by Habitat for Humanity International in July 1995. HFHYC completed its first housing project, Fuller Gardens, in 1999 – five modest homes in South Davis on land donated by Marquee Homes. Over 1,000 volunteers, 20 churches, numerous local business and service groups, and the partner families contributed to the construction of two duplexes and one single-family home. Since then we have built three houses in the Spring Lake area of Woodland and just completed two small homes on a zero lot line in the same area. Beginning in July of 2011, Habitat will be concentrating on a neighborhood revitalization program in the Bryte/Broderick neighborhoods of West Sacramento; involving residents, civic leaders, activists and professionals in improving the social, economic and environmental qualities of these neighborhoods. Working specifically in partnership with the Bryte/Broderick Community Action Network, Habitat will initiate a home repair program for low-income owner-occupied homes called A Brush With Kindness and seek in-fill lots to construct new homes and purchase homes for rehabilitation for new families within the Bryte/Broderick neighborhoods. This will be a major undertaking for our organization; mobilizing to deliver unprecedented levels of support to these communities seeking to withstand and survive the current economic downturn. Habitat for Humanity's ultimate goal is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the face of the earth by building adequate and basic housing. Our Mission is to work in partnership with God and people of all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God's love and can live and grow into all that God intends.
How We Operate A Board of Directors from a broad spectrum of the professional community oversees all work of HFHYC. An Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer and reports to the Board. We rely on contributions from individuals, businesses, churches, and organizations to fund our work. Many businesses also support Habitat through significant discounts or donations of building materials. Volunteers from all walks of life join with future Habitat homeowners to provide labor. Future Projects Donations of property are continually being investigated for new projects. Habitat for Humanity Yolo County hopes to eventually have Habitat homes throughout Yolo County.
